How Is A Panic Attack Defined

0 komentar
By Greg Anderson

Panic attacks are periods of intense anxiety, fear, and physical discomfort which strike suddenly and often unexpectedly. Panic attacks are often very different from other anxiety related problems, due to their rapid onset and sometimes completely debilitating effects.

About 3 million people in the United States alone have suffered from panic attacks, and they can strike in any age group. Some people are unaware of what is happening to them, and even fear that they are losing their mind, having a heart attack, or dying.

If people are not aware of the fact they are having panic attacks, they wont normally get treated for them. This lack of knowledge is detrimental since these attacks do not stop on their own.

Panic attacks are the cause of many issues and usually get worse if left untreated. Every person may have slightly different symptoms but the most frequently seen effects of a panic attack are: Rapid onset panic, breaking into a sweat, overly rapid heartbeat, trouble breathing, becoming dizzy, becoming faint, and having pain.

Since a panic attack is such an awful experience, a lot of people end up so scared to have more attacks that they bring them on more rapidly. It is vital to get treatment quickly to put panic attacks behind you.

While some patients are given prescription medication to help control their panic attacks, the medications in this group have some very unpleasant side effects of their own, including constant drowsiness, total disorientation, and exhaustion. It is often said that with these medications, the cure is nearly as bad as the disease! Fortunately, there is effective help available for panic attacks that can even eliminate them completely.

Panic attacks are best treated with a method that uses advanced psychological knowledge of brain function. Panic Away is one of the programs that puts an end to panic attacks by first taking away the constant fear of reoccurring attacks. The techniques teach you to retrain the way your brain reacts and it is possible to put into effect right away.

You will not be able to put an end to your panic attacks unless you get treatment. It is important to find a program that will give you a true cure, so that you can move forward with confidence. - 30535

What Is The Remedy For A Broken Heart

0 komentar
Unless you have been lucky, you have probably been badly hurt when a relationship ended. Just what is the remedy for a broken heart?
Your first step is to see if your relationship can be salvaged. Sometimes in the heat of the situation we can do things we later regret.  Perhaps you dumped your other half but now think you were too hasty. Why not see will he or she take you back? It is worth apologizing and asking for another chance if you feel this person is your significant other.
It may be that you both said things that you regret. Often couples can come under severe stress due to financial worries, concerns over children, health not to mention families. See if your relationship is worth saving . You can go to counseling for unbiased help and advice. It is worth a shot, as getting back together with your loved one, is a very good remedy for a broken heart.
Sometimes though a relationship ends and it is final. Yes you will feel like you could never be happy again but with time your feelings will change. Treat the period, after a difficult breakup, exactly like you would if that person had died.  Allow yourself time to grieve for what you have lost but then acknowledge it is time to move on.
You need to look after yourself. Why not take that holiday you always wanted or go visit some family and friends. Make changes to your daily routine. Your life will be different now so instead of approaching it with fear, grab this opportunity with both hands. Who knows, something or someone better may just be around that next corner.
I do not believe that we only have one soul mate in life. Sure partners who meet when they are teenagers and are still together in their eighties are great. But there are other twosomes out there who may have made mistakes in their respective pasts but have now found happiness again.
We change as people as we travel through the journey of life. Sometimes our significant other changes as well and as a couple, we adapt and stick together.  Often though, we find we want different things and while you may be heartbroken at first, you may ultimately be happier with someone else; or even on your own.
If you find that your heartbreak is overwhelming, please speak to someone. There are plenty of counselors and charities that help those who are suffering from a broken heart. Consider helping others as well. When we go and visit sick people in hospital, help out at a childrens school or visit elderly neighbors, we often forget about our own problems.
It is very easy to wallow in feeling of sadness but that will only breed despair. Life is too short to be miserable. You have complete control over your feelings. So get out there and find yourself the best remedy for a broken heart.

Anxiety Panic Attack Symptom When Is Anxiety Abnormal

0 komentar
By Sue Johnson

We all will feel anxious at one time or another. Many peoples worst fear is public speaking. Others may become anxious if they have to drive in heavy traffic. Were all different.

Some degree of anxiety is an appropriate response in many situations. In fact, some degree of anxiety can even help us perform better if we channel its energy properly. As long as we are able to perform at a high level, we are probably OK.

As with anything else, too much becomes the problem. Too much anxiety results in severe anxiety panic attack symptoms. At this point they interfere with our ability to live life normally and something needs to be done. If the person experiencing the episodes chooses to do nothing their life as likely to spiral out of control.

There are a few ways to distinguish abnormal anxiety from an appropriate response. We generally have an idea of the seriousness of the situation and can gauge whether our response is in the same ballpark. Another way to judge is to look at the results. For example, if were anxious about test that anxiety leads us to put in a few extra hours studying then its helpful. On the other hand, if the anxiety has is so worried we feel overwhelmed and hopeless, it has become a problem.

Anxiety panic symptoms happen on the physical side as well. A severe anxiety attack triggers the fight or flight response leading to an outpouring of adrenaline. The adrenaline causes a rapid, pounding pulse and many other uncomfortable symptoms.

Considering that anxiety panic episodes affect both the physical and emotional state, its not surprising that people find them so distressing. Anyone would naturally want relief from that distress. Fortunately, in todays world people suffering from these attacks have many treatment options available - 30535

Balance Your Chakras For a Much Healthier Life

0 komentar
By Jai Dahalli

A common belief says that most things perform the best when they are provided a well balanced condition, excess or scarce of any factor leads to undesirable conditions and that holds true for the centers of energy in our body as well. Also we need to understand that other than the body we also possess a soul which is not seen but is an important element in our existence.

Only when these inner and outer selves of a person are able to co-ordinate and maintain a healthy interaction, the person can perform tasks effectively. Even the survival of the human requires adequate attention to both of these, while food and water provide the required energy to our body, the various chakras in our body are responsible for the healthy existence of the soul and for that the correct chakra balance is crucial.

Once you have performed the exercise of chakra cleansing it is crucial that you follow it up with the act of balancing your chakras. During the cleaning process you let off all the negative energy in your body and try to get in the positive energy which supposedly is generated by the actions of the planets and the heavenly bodies.

Chakra balance is obtained by ensuring that the energy exchange takes place for each chakra so that not only the individual chakra is balanced but an overall chakra balance can be seen for the human being, which would mean that all your body parts are in the best of conditions and you are in great health.

Since each of the chakras is said to affect an important organ in our body it is important to ensure that all of them are well balanced as living with even a little problem in important organs would be discomforting.

Water consumption and usage for various purposes plays a significant role in the determination of the chakra balance of the body and hence the fluid should be an important part of your day to day activities and diet.

As soothing as the colors are for our eyes, certain colors can also be soothing to the chakras. They play a definitive role in helping maintain the chakra balance and their introduction into your life can drive away problems caused by the particular chakra with which the color is associated.

For years people have been highlighting the advantages of meditation, it not only gives you peace of mind but also provides a channel for your spiritual self to reinvent itself. As important is sleep for the freshness of the outer body, equally important is meditation for your inner self.

Every human experiences the energy exchange with the heavenly bodies while in sleep as the body tends to go into a phase of partial meditation, this is very important cosmic energy that is used to revive the chakra balance.

It is very important that along with all activities to maintain chakra balance, an individual should also include adequate amount of exercising in his/her habits, this not only beneficial for the body parts but it also helps the re arrangement of the chakras physically. The duration of the exercise need not be long but then it should be strictly followed.

Your food intake also has a role to play in the maintenance of your chakra balance, it can happen so that inapt food habits can lead to disorders and also many problems can be caused. It is better to have small meals at intervals rather than eating too much at a time.

So it can be said without a doubt that chakra balance has tremendous significance in the smooth performance of our daily activities and hence ensure that your act of balancing the chakras is in place! - 30535

Is it easier to get your girlfriend back than to find someone new

0 komentar
Here is an excerpt from a new article:

I can tell that being in a relationship was a large source of Davids self-esteem. Secretly, he was proud of being a "regular guy" who had a girlfriend. It made him feel like a man.

Now, he thinks his male friends see him as a failure for getting dumped. He feels embarrassed about it.

He wants to get back the security and status of being in a relationship — but to him, getting back a woman he has already been intimate with seems a whole lot easier than trying to meet new women, and get close to one of them.

Read the full text here, about why for some guys, getting a girlfriend back is the easier option: Is it easier to get your girlfriend back than to find someone new?

Encouragement Lighting The Fire of Motivation

0 komentar
By Shawn Doyle

I was going for a brisk walk in my neigborhood park. It is a great winding loop- a half mile walking path that is hilly in several places. I was walking and huffing and puffing my way around the track. A short man with black hair was on the trail too, running in the opposite direction. So every loop we passed one another. I didnt know him. The first time he passed me he yelled out " Keep it up!" At first I thought he was talking to someone else but no- he said it to me! Hmm. "I dont know this man from Adam" I said to myself. When we passed for the second time I got a positive "thumbs up" sign. He was smiling at me. This was getting weird. Third lap he clapped for me. So a person I didnt know was coaching me to keep going. The very last lap I worked up my energy and ran that lap and my goal was now to please my new mentor.

Stop what you are doing and think about this for one moment. In your organization who should be the one who provides the most encouragement and motivation? You. Consider the power encouragement can have. So before you stop reading this, here is a compelling reason : results. So lets put the PMA stuff aside for a minute and understand that as a leader your job is to get results. That cant be through you it has to be through your people. So as the leader you have to give them encouragement, high energy and make them feel appreciated. They want their work to be recognized. The issue is that most leaders dont do this at all. So your job is to be the CEO- cheif encouragement officer.

So here are some ideas for providing encouragement that are quick and effective. They may seem small but they can be very effective in helping get better results.

Speak to all people- Many times I have seen a "big wig" walk into a room at a big meeting with hundreds of employees, pass by everyone, ignoring them and greeting other " big wigs " on the far side of the room. How silly is that? They were making the small people feel even smaller. This created resentment and people felt slighted. Who would blame them? What a huge error. When you are touring or visiting an office or even in your own offices do you take the time to say "hello" to people? Maybe you are pressed for time. Do you at least give people non verbal positive signals? They need the small gestures of acknowledgement.

Take note of their efforts- Lower level employees often tell me they never ever get any credit for their work. So when employees work really hard do something "over and above" the call of duty, make sure to notice and say something about it. When people do wonderful work let them know! Its important to publically and privately (one on one) acknowledge people when they do great work. I was once a Vice President at a big company that had 80,000 employees. At times when I saw something I felt was great, I would find out who did it and I would write them a short handwritten note of appreciation, thanking them for doing such a wonderful job. When I traveled I would go in someones office (or cube) and well look at that- I woulde see the card I wrote pinned up on their wall. This taught me an important life lesson- that everyone wants to be appreciated.

Bees and honey- There is an old saying in the south "you attract bees with honey not vinegar." Its not a comment about bees its a comment about humans. It is easy to be critical really easy. Most people screw up alot. But the problem is these people already beat up on themselves on a regular basis. Why do we need to keep adding on to that? It is the big morale killer. Its probably just being human but its not helping at all. As a leadership expert I encourage leaders to try and find a balance between the honey and the vinegar. In many cases there is no honey at all. So some balance- please!.

Be present with presents- Do you think people love gifts? You bet. Does it have more impact when it is least expected? Even more. Look for little ways to show people appreciation. Bring in bagels in the morning, cater a lunch into the office, give someone a bonus day off, give them a gift card for coffee. These rewards are small but appreciated. One other key point- let them know that it is a reward. Some people get rewards and they dont know it is a reward or what it is for. Sit that person down, and say to them "Look, I know how hard you have been working and I have noticed it. This is a reward for all that you have done.Thank you." They will feel so good about their work, they will tell their family about it when they get home.

The secret to great leadership is really not a secret at all. You as a leader need to encourage people, help them feel as if their work matters because it does. We all matter.

So go ahead -get busy! - 30535

When To Take the GMAT And Why Earlier Is Usually Better

0 komentar
By Zeke Lee

When is the GMAT?

There is no specific date (like there is for the SAT) that you must take the GMAT. So you have the liberty of scheduling a date and time for your testing at the nearest testing administration site.

Sounds good. Since I can choose when to take the exam, when is the best time to do so?

Perhaps the most beneficial time to take your GMAT is while you are still in school, or shortly afterwards. Remember, as you gain more real world experience, you lose the test-taking intuition that you used to have when you were in school. Taking an intensive test like the GMAT 5 years after your last rigorous exam can be quite challenging. Test-taking intricacies like operating in a time pressured environment, reading through answer choices, marking answers, and dealing with psychological issues are second nature to you when you are in school, but they become quite unfamiliar the longer you wait after college. You want to minimize this risk by taking the exam during the summer after graduation or the summer between your junior and senior year-this is the ideal time. Remember, the GMAT exam is valid for 5 years. If you have any intention of applying for business school sometime in the next 5 years, you should take it at your earliest convenience.

I am not in college anymore and I missed my chance to take the GMAT during this time. What do I do now?

Dont worry. You didnt miss the boat! A lotof people are in your shoes. You might not be familiar with the pressures of test taking so will need to pay extra attention to doing several practice exams mimicking exam-like conditions.

Mimicking exam-like conditions?

I mean instead of just going through questions on a practice exam bit by bit, you should schedule an entire morning or afternoon to take the exam with a timer. Especially with the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) format of the exam, you should take these practice exams AS IF it were the real thing, at least several days before your real exam and preferably earlier.

What else should I take into account?

Since you have a busy life with work, extracurriculars, and socializing you want to get the GMAT out of the way ASAP before you start applying to business school. Why? Because later on youre going to be even more busy. Youll need to spend time on your job, but also any community groups you are a part of. Member of an organization that holds ambitious yearly events? Put in the effort and participate on the board in a leadership position. Trying to get a salary raise so you can mention it on your Bschool application? Do what you need to do to get there. And of course when you apply, youre going to need to budget time to research each school you apply to and get a sense of which ones are right for you. The list of things to do will get really hectic once you start applying, so take my advice. Take the GMAT now and get it out of the way before you start your business school apps.

Should I study first and then schedule the exam or schedule the exam and then study?

This is a personal preference. I would recommend you to schedule the exam a few months in advance when you intend to take it. Pay the $250 (yes, not cheap) it costs to take the exam so that you are invested into the exam-forcing you to study. Otherwise, if you casually study for the exam, you may never progress anywhere. - 30535

Now There Is A New And Simple Way To Fully Recover From Gripping Social Anxiety Disorder

0 komentar
By Jan West

Weve all seen it, so many so-called therapists peddling their cures for social anxiety disorder. Yet what are the chances of a real cure? Downloading file after file of expensive miracle cures adds to the cloak of mystery shrouding what in fairness is just some means to extract money from you. Oh hang on, what about all those free bonuses that come with this instant tranquillity... they are all packages designed to whet your appetite, but in reality they are all bulking agents to make you feel you have got something for your money.

They start off by luring you in with some kitschy sales talk, laying it on thick, then after the premise of a cure they move on to the price. Starting at an overstated price, and then slowly coming down in price, even offering you useless add-ons for free, which you will never ever use! Well, I suppose they have to make you feel comfortable and get those endorphins zapping about inside of your head. That is when you are hooked on what is a supposed cure for panic attacks and they have your money for something that is completely ineffective.

Examined in the cold light of day these downloads, MP3s or instructions are not worth the media they came in or on. Oh yes, they also tempt you to subscribe to other useless so-called special one off offers that will expire within 24-hours or so if you dont act fast. The industry supplying these overly priced fixes really go to town in throwing the hard sell at you, and many buyers fall hook, line and sinker for the ploys used. So do be careful what you buy when it comes to fixing your social anxiety disorder or you may well succumb to another social anxiety attack.

Former therapist and now global best-selling writer Stephen Richards adds comment by saying, "Most of these products on offer to cure social anxiety are nothing more than snake oil pitches, just made to entice the weak willed and unwary into buying useless products. These goods do little more than mask the problem for a short while, not targeting the actual areas in the mind that are in need of retraining. Basically it is all a waste of money."

Stopping a panic attack in a fast way while being gripped by one is not quite as easy as some might claim. Why wait until you are in the grip of fear before applying such a cure? These so-called therapists are just reaping the rewards from your fear. Any decent therapist would, from the outset, be changing the very areas of your mind that set these attacks in motion. One method on offer unrealistically guarantees a100% success rate, and yet in the same jargon it intimates that, well, it is not exactly a 100% fix rate! Very cleaver!

Look at it this way, if you are immersed over prolonged periods in the very act of ridding yourself of social anxiety disorder then that in itself will protract the very thing you are trying to resolve. The very same panic attack you want to avoid will manifest itself at the least expected time. This could be in the form of chest tightness, increased heart rate, dizziness, uncontrolled sweating, shortness of breath, headaches, obsessive thoughts and more.

In the way these cure all products are pushed at you and in such quantity it is no wonder the amount of panic attacks is on the increase. By virtue of the amount of products out there it is easy to be caught up into thinking that it is a fashion to actually have such a disorder.

With some of the methods on offer, that supposedly cure panic attacks, you could actually fill a shoe box up with the paraphernalia that goes with it. The real situation is that medication, relaxation exercises, hypnotherapy, psychiatry or other such treatments are not the solution to anxiety and panic attacks. Yet some audio CDs use what is called embedded subliminals, these go below the level of your conscious awareness.

By all means, use such subliminal CDs, but they are only good if you get to hear all what is said, because if your subconscious mind misses a few words then it could pick up only some of what is meant, and then it all goes wrong! Then there are the hypnotherapy CDs, but one hypnotherapy CD cannot do what would in real life take anything from 10-24 hypnotherapy sessions to achieve. What about those multipacks of MP3s you can download, surely they must do something? Well to some degree they do help clog your computer with useless files that you might actually listen to one day, when you get around to it. However, now there is a real alternative! Yes, a real inexpensive alternative that actually works!

Forget self-hypnosis, cognitive hypnotherapy and listening to subliminal messaging. The real leap forward in fixing social anxiety disorder is indeed quite uncomplicated. Just imagine listening to one audio track for 20 minutes and then seeing immediate results! This is exactly what happens to most when they use the "Releasing You From Social Anxiety CD", which was designed and developed by best selling author and self-help guru Stephen Richards. There is absolutely no subliminal messaging or hypnosis used, as all of that has been dumped by the wayside as worthless in helping to fix social anxiety disorder.

During therapy sessions with private clients Stephen Richards has had massive breakthroughs when it comes to helping others overcome panic attacks. He developed a system that would do away with expensive and wasteful downloads. Downloads that were and are very costly. He has done away with any form of hypnosis whatsoever. His "Releasing You From You From Social Anxiety CD" uses technology which targets the exact area in need of help.

Stephen Richards has developed a method to help overcome social anxiety disorder that is so simple. Just one 20 minute session can do what others claim to do in tens of hours. One other criterion he stipulated was that it had to be inexpensive so that anyone could afford it. After working on this project and fine tuning it, Stephen Richards was happy to proceed to the stage of where it became available to the public for less than the cost of a film DVD.

The method developed by Stephen Richards for overcoming social anxiety disorder is one of simplicity, far less complicated or time consuming than anything you will find on the market today. Where other modicums of therapy take weeks and weeks to achieve results, this can be achieved in just one 20 minute session of the "Releasing You From Social Anxiety CD"! Surely these claims are somewhat exaggerated? Well, if you are aware of how Stephen Richards works then you will know that unless he is 100% happy with anything then he will not make it available to the public, simple as that. He has even pulled products from being sold because he felt they were either not up to standard or too advanced. And now knowing you have someone on your side it should make you more confident to be able to tackle panic attacks head on and in a no-holds barred way. After infinite development, the "Releasing You From Social Anxiety CD" is the answer to many social phobics prayers.

Stephen Richards says, "I was absolutely dismayed at the way some unscrupulous sellers purvey their social anxiety cures. They are just a sham and exploiting the weakness of those in need. They drag out the treatments in the hope of more expensive sessions to follow. I believe in a fix that is inexpensive and also a one that is transparent in what it does. - 30535

Love Relationship Advice

0 komentar
For most people, its pretty easy to find love.  The challenge often seems to be to be able to make it last.  Keeping your love for each other strong is not impossible.  You just have to understand why it falls apart and make sure you, and your partner, avoid those traps.  Thats where love relationship advice comes in handy.
With the advent of online dating sites there are more ways than ever to meet the one.  Its a much better method than cruising the bar scene looking for someone special.  For most couples the first few months is pretty easy.  You are falling in love and you think the other person is perfect.  You can see no wrong in them or what they do.  And maybe there isnt anything wrong with the way they, or you, act in the early stages of a relationship.
They say that familiarity breeds contempt and if thats true it would go a long way to explaining why the longer a relationship goes on the more it tends to break down.
Here is a list of some of the things you, and your partner, need to be on the lookout for in your relationship.  These are common traps that many couples fall into without realizing it.  If you know what to watch out for and can avoid these mistakes you will have a much better chance of keeping your relationship strong and healthy for a long time:
1. Unrealistic expectations.  As I said above we think our new love can do no wrong.  As our relationship slowly changes from falling in love to being in love and all the day to day stresses and mundane tasks we must face, its easy to lose some of that early glow.  This can be a pivotal time in many relationships, sometimes the couple will think that they just dont love each other anymore and break up.
In reality, in any long term relationship, you will spend a much longer time in this normal mode than you will in the early glow mode.  Its important to recognize that this is all a normal progression in an adult relationship.
2. Inability to effectively communicate.  Men and women express themselves differently...thats just the way it is.  The good news is that you can learn to communicate with your partner effectively, if youre willing to take some time to learn how. The whole its a guy thing or its a girl thing is only true to a point, and is largely just a cop out.  In reality any mature, intelligent adult should be able to learn how to talk to their partner, and even more importantly, listen to their partner.  The real question is do you care enough about your partner and the relationship to take the time?
3.  Dont confuse sex with love.  This may sound obvious but men and women tend to look at sex in different ways.  Women, for example, tend to look at sex as a way to connect with someone they love on a deeper physical level.  Yes, its pleasurable, but the pleasure isnt just physical its emotional as well.
Men tend to look at sex as definition of who they are as a man.  For them too, its pleasurable but its also a way to prove their desirability and masculinity.  Sometimes when a relationship gets to the comfortable stage this difference in views about sex can create problems.  If one partner doesnt seem sexually interested in the other partner it can create severe stress on the relationship.
If your relationship gets to this point, it might help if you and your partner can remember that sex is only one small component of every thing your relationship is made up of.  While for many couples, having an active sex life is an important part of the relationship, its important to understand that as you age and your relationship grows, it probably wont be  quite as important as it once was. That doesnt mean your partner doesnt love you or find you attractive, its just a fairly common way for long term relationships to go.
I hope this love relationship advice will help you hold on to the love youve found.  Being able to make a deep, long lasting, connection with another person really is one of lifes blessings.  Make your connection last by learning how to avoid the pitfalls of some relationships.

What Is Meant By A Past Regression

0 komentar
By John Paul Harding

Are you familiar with the idea of past life regression? As more people come to accept the idea of reincarnation, many are interested in the idea of going back over their past lives to find out more about themselves.

One thing which can help you to get started is to keep a past lives journal. This is where you can write down your emotions and thoughts, even the most trivial which seem to be out of place with the experiences which have shaped you as a person in your present lifetime. Some of the things which seem to be of particular importance to many include fears of or attractions to specific places and things, whether or not you have ever been there or seen them for yourself; at least in this lifetime. Your journal can help you to start drawing connections and piecing together the puzzle of a past life or lives.

A past lives journal could begin as a list of things you like and do not like, fears, favorite foods, places and other cultural details. You should also note any predispositions and talents you may have - anything which says something about who you are may turn out to be important as you decipher the clues to your past lives.

Your dreams may also contain some clues to your past lives - be sure to take notes on anything from your dreams which seem to belong to a previous life. However, you should keep in mind that much of the content of your dreams will come from the present.

Or you could try past life regression.

You may have to go see an experienced past life regression therapist. These therapists are skilled in taking you through a regression step by step and then helping you to interpret what you have gathered from this experience. To accomplish this, the therapist will use hypnosis. However, self hypnosis may also be an option.

Meditation is another technique which is used to learn about past lives.

For a lot of people, it is hard to induce a past life regression experience using meditation. We are often skeptical of what we receive during these experiences; but in order to make the most of your regression, you have to learn to trust your instincts and to listen to yourself.

While meditating, useful information about your past lives can come to you. You should write down everything which you experience during your meditation; this will help you to figure out which of these pieces may be tied to a former life.

Those who have some difficulty meditating often find aids including visual focal points, incense or relaxing music or sounds to be helpful. There are guided meditation tapes you can try as well as recordings of relaxing natural soundscapes.

Binaural beats are something else you can try.

Binaural beats are an audio technology which uses certain frequencies to attune your brainwaves to achieve a deep state of meditation in a short time. Whether you choose this or another aid to your meditations, you do need to select a quiet place to meditate which is free of distractions. Lie down or sit and get comfortable, keeping your thoughts positive as you relax your body.

You need to relax your muscles and clear your mind. When one of those thoughts of your everyday concerns comes through, simply acknowledge it and move on. It may take several tries before you can successfully meditate, but you will get there - and the answers to your questions about past lives may start coming to you.

Past life regression can even help you to cope with problems in your present life as well as give you information about the past. Some even learn that they have known the people they know now in a past life.

Reincarnation in some form or another is a part of many religious traditions. Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs all believe in the concept of Karma. To put this concept into the simplest possible terms, it is the principle that the actions you take in your present life determine the circumstances of your next life. Knowing more about your past lives can help you to live a better life in the present.

As with meditation, you need to approach past life regression with an open mind. You have to accept this as something which really can work for you and be able to accept the information which comes to you about a past life. You can learn from the mistakes of the past and ensure that your current life follows a better course.

There are many who hold the opinion that a regression through a past life can help to free you of mental blocks and improve your mental health and your outlook on life.

Once you are able to face up to mistakes you may have made in a past life, you have the opportunity to avoid repeating these mistakes. This information can help you to improve your life and make your world a better place.

You may also discover latent talents which you had not suspected that you possessed. For example, you may learn that you were an accomplished violinist in a past life; and upon giving it a try, you find you have a natural aptitude for the instrument! This is the sort of experience which can really enrich your life.

Past life regression offers a number of benefits to anyone who is willing to listen to what their own personal history has to tell them. As long as you approach it with an open mind, the results can be impressive. - 30535

How To Win Love Back

0 komentar
Its easy to fall into routines and habits in relationships where we all end up taking what we have for granted. We simply expect the other person to be there until one day the relationship comes crumbling down around you. Fortunately learning how to win love back is easier than most people believe.

The problem with most how to win love back tactics is that they dont take into consideration the primary differences between the way men and women think. Women will try very hard to make their man understand how much they love him and need him, while men view actions as speaking louder than any words you can say.

If youre serious about learning how to win love and get your ex back, then youll need to spend a bit of time removing the words from your relationships memories and taking a look at what your actions were saying.

Most women can think of times when they were trying hard to tell their man that they love him and want him to stay. You know the words you said, but what did your actions say? To a man, you would have been showing him how upset you were and how hurt you were. In his mind, he would have been thinking that hes the cause of all your misery, so youd be better off if he just broke up with you.  This means all your reassurances of how much you love him actually pushed him away!

Think about all the times where you both argued and got angry. Your words might have been trying to make him see reason and understand your point of view, but your actions were telling him something very different. Your man wouldnt have heard the words you shouted at him. He would only have seen a very unhappy woman who really wasnt happy with the man before her. His mind would instantly have thought he was the cause of your misery and hes believe its easier to break up with you rather than keep making you so unhappy. The same thing is true if you give him the silent treatment.

When youre learning how to win back love, you have to realize that your actions will speak far louder than any words you can say. Your partner wants you to be happy. He also wants to believe youre happy when youre spending time with him. The best possible way to show him that hes the right man for you is to go out and work on your own self-confidence levels.

When you feel happy within yourself and youre confident and brimming with life, youre irresistible to the man who fell in love with you. After all, when the relationship was still new and exciting, you were both bubbly and happy and pleased to spend time with each other. This is the version of you your partner fell in love with.

Spend some time working on things that make you happy. Hang out with friends or take a walk to clear your unhappy thoughts. Watch a fun movie and then suggest that you catch up with your man over a friendly cup of coffee. Your actions will show that youre a more pleasant person to be with and his feelings will start to re-kindle as though by magic.

Could your job be the source of your upper arm fat

0 komentar
By Katherine Crawford M.S.

Did you know that poor work conditions can lead to more upper arm fat? Although this may sound ridiculous, research has shown this to be true.

How can we make such conclusions? Well, this groundbreaking research was done in England and showed how rank, among many other factors, can influence what you eat, how much you exercise and how much fat you carry.

So here is what to look out for at your job:

1. No control. If you arent in control, or if you feel like you arent in control, stress is going to rise too high. In fact, in many other areas of life, a lack of control is directly related to heightened stress hormones which can lead to more upper arm fat.

2. Excess tenseness. If you feel like you are in a constant state of tension, stress hormones are going to flood your body. And said hormones can alter levels of arm fat. One simple test is to assess how stiff your neck muscles are.

3. Clarity of given tasks. If the work you are supposed to do is unclear, stress will rise. Ask your superiors for more clearly defined work. State how your productivity will increase and never point fingers. After all, finger pointing will only increase work-related stress.

4. Your rank. The research from the UK showed that lower ranking jobs lead to more weight gain. So if you are stuck in a lower ranking position, seek out other activities in which you can be more dominant. Perhaps you have a latent talent or hobby you have forgotten about.

5. Having a mono-identity. Dont let your work define who you are. When things are going good you will feel good. But anytime something goes bad you will get flooded with all those stress hormones. Subjecting yourself to this emotional roller coaster is unnecessary.

Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do here. If your job is becoming a true nightmare despite all your efforts, you may have to find a different workplace. If this isnt possible within your company, you may have to find a different job! Then you may notice that the upper arm fat comes off a little easier! - 30535

A Look At The Numbers For Stress Management

0 komentar
By Tim Sanders

Times have evidently been rough. With the recession and unemployment issues, the country is certainly going through some tough times. This is why many therapists and psychiatrists have come up with stress management seminars, books and programs that are developed to help people from all walks of life cope with the circumstances and problems that they face. They explain to people how stress works against them and how they can resolve their problems better. They also guide people towards choosing a healthier and more relaxed lifestyle which can encourage productivity and success.

Recent stress management statistics say that people have been coming to these seminars and taking help of these self help books and programs to cope with their anxiety. The American Psychological Association (APA) has released recent statistics and information about stress management.

As a general rule, two thirds of the people are likely to take help for stress management, whereas fifty four percent are troubled about strain in their lives. Workplace related stress management statistics say that sixty two percent of the people feel that their work causes stress while fifty two percent (which is more than half) of all working people are more stressed out about work than they are about their home lives. Most of that population (about 54%) is also concerned about their health being affected by this constant stress.

Stress Management Statistics from the APA further reveal that a significant percentage of the working people consider job insecurity and heavy workloads as stress causing problems. The most stressed out people are Managers and Executives whereas the least stressed happen to be the ones who are self employed. Money happens to be the top most reason for stress and about 73% of the people feel that way.

Stress Management Statistics also divulge that stress and depression are inter-related as is anxiety and panic attacks. According to the World Health Organization 121 million people all over the world currently suffer from depression. This is an awful number and also increases the number of people doing drug abuse and having anxiety disorders.

Women are more susceptible to anxiety disorders than men. Many of those people also develop other disorders including anorexia (and other eating disorders), substance abuse and agoraphobia. Stress Management Statistics also relate that most people dont even get their panic disorders treated. These disorders can affect the lives of normal people negatively and create even more worries for them. This is why it is a good idea to deal with stress early on and get help from stress management seminars, books and programs. - 30535

Long Distance Relationship Advice

0 komentar
Maintaining a healthy long distance relationship can be a challenge.  It takes two mature people who are able to communicate in order to make it work.  It will also take some sound long distance relationship advice, and thats where I come in.
In this article Ive outlined some of the things that you can do to make your relationship not only survive, but thrive.  Ive also compiled a few of the most common problems couples face and how to avoid falling into the same traps in your relationship.
One of the first things you and your partner need to do to ensure the continued strength of your relationship is to make sure you are both on the same page.  Make sure you agree on whether or not you have an exclusive relationship. If one partner thinks its ok to date while you are apart and the other one is staying monogamous, the relationship is doomed from the start.
For the most part, a couple wont even contemplate a monogamous long distance relationship unless both parties feel the relationship has the potential to be  a long term one.  There is no sense making this type of commitment unless you both feel that the other person might be the one.
Another thing you and your partner need to do is make sure you have good communication skills.  When you are far away from each other for extended periods of time, and you cant have physical contact, you will have to rely solely on your communication skills to continue to build your relationship.
That is why long distance relationships, when they last, are some of the best relationships around.  The couple has to learn to communicate effectively to make it work, and they dont get distracted by all the physical attraction. They are able to connect on a deeper level which can often lead to a more fulfilling relationship.
If you are an insecure person, though most people wont admit it if they are, you should avoid getting involved in a long distance relationship.  Being in this type of relationship requires a great amount of trust, typically people who are insecure see a threat everywhere, even where there isnt one.
If you and your partner are overly suspicious, not only will your relationship be a constant battle, it will also be unlikely to work.  No good relationship can be based on suspicion and insecurities.
You and your partner also need to be careful of the temptation to have a fling with someone while away from your partner.  Unless you both agree in advance that some extracurricular activity is ok (and if thats the case why bother pursuing a long distance relationship in the first place) than you should stay faithful to your partner.
If you want to maintain your long distance relationship you have to know ahead of time that it will be a challenge and you and your partner both have to be committed to making it work, but if you follow my  long distance relationship advice you and your partner have a real shot of having a great, long term loving relationship.

What is the Link Between Anger and Depression

0 komentar
By Rhys Jones

Anxiety and depression are said to be the causes of uncontrollable anger. When a person is constantly worried about problems they have no control over or even problems they do have control over, it often results in depression. If you feel that, there is no way out then your depression can affect your life and cause you to drift down into a spiral of despair.

Taking control of your emotions produces good results. If you feel that the world is crumbling down then you are probably thinking negatively, which instigates depression and anxiety. In this article, we will discuss some techniques to help you cope with anxiety and depression, thus relieving uncontrollable anger.

First of all, let us take a look at the symptoms. Do you feel as if you are going out of your mind? Do you scream in your head: I cant take it any more?. Do you feel like someone is out to get you? Do you think people view you as a crazy person? If you are undergoing any or all of these symptoms then you are probably suffering from some form of anxiety and depression.

If you can not find a way to think in a different mode, then you will probably explode when your emotions start to soar and your anger bursts forth. Instead of telling yourself that you are going mad, why not tell yourself that you are only having a temporary emotional problem and that you need to resolve the situation. Review all your problem areas carefully and search your memory to see if there are answers to your problems there. A review like this, often opens doors to resources you may have overlooked.

If you feel like someone is out to get you then you might have a chemical imbalance or a mental illness. Why not visit your doctor or a mental health expert to learn more about your symptoms and find a way to gain control of your life. Anxiety and depression will play tricks with your mind and sometimes the thoughts are a result of a chemical imbalance.

If you think that people think you are going crazy, you might care to remember that most people have their own problems and dont have time to analyze you as a person. When you walk into a room and think that people are staring at you, you might want to remember that all people watch the things around them, checking to make sure that everything is OK around themselves before returning to their own lives.

If you feel like you cannot take it any more, just bite your lip and walk another mile. When times are difficult, it does not mean it is the end of the world, although sometimes it may seem this way. If you are struggling to pay bills, fighting to hold a family together, or having difficulty with your children then remember that we all have problems like these at some time or another in our lives.

Are your children driving you bonkers? If they are, take a break. Go and do something entertaining or some exercise. This very often relieves the stresses that lead to anxiety, depression and anger. Life is just too short to worry about the things in life that you do not have control over. If you have problems, the answers lie within you, so it pays to look into your head.

If you are really struggling to obtain your goals then you might want to break them down into smaller segments and work slowly to achieve them. If you set goals that are within reason, you will not need to get stressed finding a way to reach them.

It is important to pamper yourself each day. Learn some coping techniques that will benefit both your mind and your body. If you feel overwhelmed, you might want to inhale and exhale for ten counts.

Stretching out on a sofa to watch your favourite film can benefit your mind and body, if you want to destress. Learn to focus on what you are doing instead of fretting about what you are not doing. This often clears the mind and allows you to relax.

If you are subject to sustained anger, you will most probably have difficulties for the rest of your life unless you start to take control of your emotions. Remember that depression leads to uncontrollable anger. - 30535

What Is The Best Way To Get A Woman Back

0 komentar
Few things in life suck as much as losing someone you love.  Its very hard to deal with and many people will do just about anything to find out the best way to  get a woman back.  If you want to get back with your ex, dont give up. It is possible and Ill show you how.
In order to get back with your ex youre going to need to think outside the box.  When most people are trying to get back with their ex they almost always do the wrong things.
That is why listening to your friends might be the worst thing you can do because chances are theyll tell you to do the exact opposite of what you should really be doing.
Here is a list of some Dos and Donts.  Follow this list and you will have a much better chance of getting back with your ex.
DONT S
1) Harass, badger, nag, or threaten.  No one likes to be pushed.  Dont chase after her.  She already gets the fact that you still care and you want her back, now its time to back off a little bit and give her some space.
2) Lock yourself in your house and never go out.  This is what many people do.  They go to work but other than that they just hide in a dark room.
3) Hookup with someone else.  Not only is this a good way to lose your girlfriend for good, its also unfair to the new woman.  You would just be using her to get over your hurt.

DOS
1) Give your woman some space.  Give her time to miss you.  She cant remember you fondly and miss you if you are constantly in her face.  This can be very difficult to do but its one of the most important things to remember if you want her back.
2)  Go out with your friends.  Try to have fun.  It will be hard, but its very important not only for your mental health but also so that your ex will start to see you, again, as a fun loving person.  The way she saw you when you first got together.
3) Be honest about whether or not the relationship is worth saving.  Not all relationships should be saved.  Also be willing to honestly admit whatever part you had in the relationship falling apart and be willing to make some changes to your behavior.
Follow the steps Ive listed above and youll be much more likely to get a woman back.

Worst To Best Stanley Kubrick

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick

Have you ever tried to watch all of Kubrick’s films within a very short duration of time? It’s no easy task, take my word for it. It’s kind of like an episode of Will it Blend?, where your brain gets overstuffed with so much detailed data that your processor has to work at three times the strength just to remember to breathe, and eventually you kinda fizzle out and die.

I completed the assignment though, and as I reached the conclusion, I demanded my mindcomputer produced a summary of what it had learned. It whirred for a bit, then spluttered, and eventually shat out one plain and simple sentence:

“Kubrick is the greatest director that ever lived”.

Debatable! But that’s what my brain said! And even if we can shout other names (Hitchcock comes to mind), no film connoisseur could argue that Stanley Kubrick is one of the most influential directors of all time. Perhaps you have a different favourite, but I still doubt you’d kick up too much of a fuss when someone drops this genius’ name in such high regard. Because he changed everything! With his controversial topics, revolutionary cinematography, borderline torture of his actors, and complete disregard to what the viewer might have wanted, he managed to lead one of the most perfect careers in movie history, truly without a bad film, and with some very good ones. And so my only hope is that I do the man some justice here by gushing my fanboy juices all over this page, and I also want you to enjoy it, whoever you are.

Note: Short documentaries and AI were not included for obvious reasons.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 13. Killers Kiss

13. Killers Kiss (1955)

Only a list about Kubrick would dare to feature a movie as decent as Killer’s Kiss to be this low, but something had to be here, and so here it is. For, as the director’s second feature film, you could already feel the man gazing in the right direction, even if the budget was so constrictive that Stanley was reportedly forced onto welfare during the shooting, and a lot of the scenes had to be shot in secret, hidden from the police due to the lack of permits. However, the absence of money wasn’t the issue, as all the style and odd surrealistic moments in the world could not save this film from the one thing that burdened it the worst: a painfully ordinary storyline. It flashed back upon the thin love tale between a boxer and a private dancer, portrayed by some of the stiffest acting I’ve ever seen in my whole life, complete with dialogue so bland that it’s rumoured to have been dubbed into the film during post production. True or not, thats a pretty severe rumour. Now blend this with the fact that United Artists changed the ending of the script against Kubrick’s wishes, and I reckon the man himself would understand why we are leaving this right here.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 12. Spartacus

12. Spartacus (1960)

I am Spartacus! Winning four Academy Awards, becoming the biggest moneymaker in Universal Studios’ history for a decade, and having been subjected to countless parodies ever since; it is no wonder as to why this historical epic drama has received more than its fair share of worship in latter days. But that means shit to me. Because even while the mighty title character (portrayed perfectly by Kirk Douglas) impressively leads this powerful rebellion against Christianity, slavery, race discrimination, gender discrimination, and the Roman Empire ... the film itself simply feels less “Kubrick” than anything else on this list. The reasons are obvious, as the director was employed as a replacement, forced into the pilot seat within two days of signing his contract without any creative control over the script, design, or the actors. As a result, even our hero labeled this three hour long drag as “too moralising”, distancing his name from the project and refusing to be a hired gun ever again because of it. And I understand. I mean, sure, I have to respect that many groupies do praise this flicks existence most highly, but I am just not one of them, and this is my blog, so.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 11. Fear and Desire

11. Fear and Desire (1953)

By creeping around the net, you will find almost every similar Worst to Best Kubrick list cold-heartedly elbows this short military film to the very bottom, and who can blame them? As Stanley’s first feature (funded by borrowed money from family and friends), critics have disregarded Fear and Desire as a clunky, sloppy, and unsteady introduction to the director. Hell, even the master himself denounced the film, calling it a “bumbling, amateur exercise,” comparing it to a “child’s drawing on a fridge,” and then personally attempting to buy all the prints himself to destroy them from all of existence (and he nearly succeeded too). Thankfully, some copies survived, and now anyone can enjoy these four soldiers stuck behind enemy lines as they deal with their fear and mental illness, one cliché tale delivered by acting and dialogue which leaves much to be desired (see what I did there?). However, such a bad reputation has served it well by dropping the expectation bar so drastically low that I myself was pleasantly surprised, finding the effort relatively charming with some really memorable scenes, and naturally blessed with the unavoidable scent of Kubrick’s genius firmly in tact. So, yes, maybe it’s not all that great, but it’s definitely not as bad as everyone says it is.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 10. Barry Lyndon

10. Barry Lyndon (1975)

Despite this pitiful position, there has to be a reason as to why Barry Lyndon won four production Oscars; why Scorsese named it his favourite Kubrick in the world; and why it is often rated one of the greatest films ever made, right? Right. And this is because the 1700s period drama is a technological feat and an aesthetic landmark of note, as we witness our unlikeable protagonist elegantly manipulating his way through the most visually appealing scenery one could envision, surrounded by historically accurate costumes and a certain minimal lighting which achieved exactly what Kubrick set out to create: a movie which looked like a painting. But, be honest now, would you stare at a painting for three hours? Because that’s what this is like: one slow, uneventful experience, presented via characters as dull as the storyline itself, a prime example of style over substance. Which might be why the bloated offering didn’t quite hit the commercial success everyone had hoped for, yet is still defended vigorously by many, claiming it takes multiple viewings to fully appreciate, but thats a lot of hours, man! I dont really have time for that, sorry. I mean, in all fairness, it is untouchable for what it is, but as far as entertainment goes, it simply falls too short for my liking (or, rather, way too fucking long).

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 09. The Killing

09. The Killing (1956)

Even if this hopeless love story/heist gone wrong isnt exactly the most unique of plotlines, it does mark the point where Kubrick started to realise who he wasn’t (by judging his former failures), and working out where he needed to go (which is evident in what followed). Unfortunately, not everyone was too convinced, as United Artists still had no faith in the man, refusing to put up much money for the project (leaving the director to once again rely on loans), as well as insisting on a narrator (which Kubrick hated, and is often noted as a big flaw of the film). However, our director got the last laugh, as when this movie was released, the box office ... performed poorly at best :( But it did do wonders for his reputation; the non-linear, fast-paced flick praised as Stanley’s most mature to date, critically acclaimed then, and a cult favourite now, many applauding its humorous commentary on morality—not to mention the trademark camera work Mr Kubrick quickly became famous for. Yet perhaps even more significant than all of this, was when Quentin Tarantino openly labeled The Killing as a major influence on Reservoir Dogs, which is not only very easy to see, but also, very cool.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 08. Eyes Wide Shut

08. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

As Kubrick died six days after showing the final cut of Eyes Wide Shut to Warner Brothers, the rumours surrounding his own opinion of the film reflected that of the general public. Some say he considered it his best work, others claimed he loathed it, and I sympathise, as even I cannot tell whether I enjoy this “erotic thriller” or not. Featuring the awkward on screen romance/jealousy between the (then) real life lovers Cruise and Kidman, the whole script felt as though it was lost in its own dream, stumbling through excessively sexual scenes, so far detached from itself that even the challenging surrealistic mindfuck resulted in one overall unsatisfactory dull stroll. But as slow and indulgent as it turned out, the seedy mood lingers long after the credits, and much like all of Kubrick’s latter work, was so unsettlingly detailed that the symbolism debates have often outweighed the plot. Which is why I could talk about this film forever, as undoubtedly his most psychologically creepy and dangerous offering, either my favourite of his lesser films, or my least favourite of his better ones, I can never tell which one. But a curious leaving gift regardless.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 07. Paths of Glory

07. Paths of Glory (1957)

You may have noticed that "anti-war" is a common theme in Kubrick’s tank, but none hit the mark as sincerely as Paths of Glory, which tackled the issue of cowardice in the face of a suicide mission, and the horrific consequences a platoon may be subjected to as punishment. Set in World War 1, there is no comedic value in here, rather a very truthful account of the dark sadness one may be exposed to within these tragic circumstances, although the true tragedy lay wherein (once again) an early Kubrick was so easily disregarded, barely breaking even and receiving heavy censorship and opposition from Spain and France due to the portrayal of their countries. But alls well that ends well, and it ended well, as the movie continues to be critically worshipped to this very day, partially for the outstanding acting (in particular from Kirk Douglas), but mostly for the director finally coming into his own style with his perfect choices of locations and methods of lighting, reportedly a key influence on “one of the greatest TV dramas of all time,” The Wire. Kubrick also met his future wife on the set of this film, and they stayed married forever, so that’s lovely too ::heart emoji::

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 06. 2001: A Space Odyssey

06. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

This film is so epic that I’m scared to even talk about it. It’s basically four movies in one, with hardly any dialogue, purposefully bland acting, and a slow pace to really accentuate the atmosphere of space, cryptically exploring complex philosophies such as artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial life, and (most importantly) the evolution of man. If such an overly-intellectual premise didn’t exhaust you already, then the execution will, as this is one of the most influential films ever made, leaping over the special effects of its era, and pioneering techniques which other directors steal to this very day. And yet, it still divided audiences on either side of the ground it broke: the Academy adored it (earning Kubrick his only personal Oscar) and kids on drugs found God in the Star Gate sequence; while others once again called another Kubrick “too long” and “a drag”, 241 people reportedly walking out of the premier alone. What’s worse is that it aimed to ask questions rather than solve them, leaving the obscure art piece frustratingly open to interpretation, all of which abandons me on the fence, watching me die while I try to make my mind up. But what I do know is that it changed the game, was ahead of its time (even now), and will be furiously analysed until mankind’s very end (or perhaps even more so then). Its kinda beyond a movie, really.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 05. Lolita

05. Lolita (1962)

Taking on Vladimir Naboko’s naughty novel about an anxious 40 year old man’s irrational infatuation towards a barely teenage girl, one would inevitably expect to clash with some share of opposition, and yet even Kubrick had no idea as to the extent of this. Naturally, the film was plagued with censorship issues from the get-go, nobody daring to touch it, forcing the director to rely on innuendos and subtle suggestions to get the intense subject matter across, toning it down to such a degree that the man admitted he would have never made the movie if he knew what the limitations were going to be. Due to this, groupies of the original book were appalled by the tame adaptation, taking it in turns to disregard the butchery of their classic “love story”, and I can only imagine this hurt Mr Kubrick even further. However, it did make money, and the reviews have always been consistently high, with a particular focus on the actors themselves. And I guess that’s why I love it so much. Which is to say, I am in love with Sue Lyon, I dont care if she was only 14 years old at the time, her performance seduced me as intended and now Im probably going to jail. Thanks a lot, Stanley.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 04. Full Metal Jacket

04. Full Metal Jacket (1987)

Ok, and now we’ve hit the real big boys, starting with Full Metal Jacket, based on Hasford’s novel The Short-Timers, and coming in as Kubrick’s first feature after a seven year hiatus. The story itself was set in the Vietnam War and is split down into two segments: the first being undoubtedly the most memorable as our volunteer marines endure strenuous bootcamp sessions which challenge their masculinity, owed above all else to the infinitely applauded role of R. Lee Ermey as the vulgar drill sergeant—one truly genuine and considerably quotable performance (reportedly a result of him improvising most of his lines). Unfortunately, as we set off into real battle, the second segment does not quite hit the same mark as the first, but the message still screams loud and clear, exposing the effect of war by granting no hope and dehumanising the characters to point of numbness, whilst somehow maintaining the imaginative spark of humour and unconventional dialogue throughout. So, naturally, it grossed high, was instantaneously critically acclaimed, and everyone still loves it long time.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 03. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

03. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

There is no topic in the world more serious than an atomic missile attack between the USSR and the US, so why not make a completely ridiculous piss-take of the people’s concerns while it was still fresh on their minds? Which, of course, is exactly what this black and white satire did, telling the tale of various politicians trying their best to prevent a nuclear holocaust in the face of world wide doom. Its a tough situation only aggravated by the fact that every character is a little bit stupid and a little bit insane—a weight carried almost exclusively by Peter Sellers (who performs three of the most memorable roles), granting us permission to laugh in the face of one legitimately scary topic. And this is what makes Dr. Strangelove the film which really cemented Kubrick’s genius; a cynical piece which hasn’t dated whatsoever, effortlessly topping many similar lists, boasting the longest title for a Best Picture nominee (at 13 words), and was so relevant to the time’s greatest fears that the government reportedly changed some of their procedures because of its content. Without a doubt, the most hilarious work Kubrick had to offer, especially once you learn that the whole plots delivery was actually some metaphor for sexual intercourse. Thats not a joke either.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 02. A Clockwork Orange

02. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Even if a person hasnt seen A Clockwork Orange, there is a good chance they will be aware of how disturbing it is, and I’m here to explain why. It’s because this dystopian crime landmark shoves violent images into your face whilst asking you to sympathise with the sadistic nature of the main character, Alex. He was created as wicked as they come, yet is still sold as one likeable chap, with his funny words and love for Beethoven and interesting attire and tendency to rape women—he’s almost adorable. Furthermore, his antisocial antics serve a greater purpose, requesting that the viewer contemplates some serious topics to the likes of free will, juvenile delinquency, crime, pornography, and other such problematic political subjects. We, as the witnesses, are expected to identify with evil, and reevaluate who the real victims of our cruel society are. Naturally, such a controversial request was an immediate success everywhere, to the point that many misunderstood the message, and (like any good film) was the catalyst for various real life murders and rapes, generating massive debates in the media and tormenting Kubrick until he completely withdrew the films release in the UK. But with all the parodies and accolades, no one could escape A Clockwork Orange as one explicitly brutal classic, managing to make violence seem like just a bit of fun, really.

Worst To Best: Stanley Kubrick: 01. The Shining

01. The Shining (1980)

Based on but far removed from Stephen King’s novel, this is a film that some of us understand as Kubrick’s greatest work, while others do not. But we who are in the know, view this haunted house as a character itself, allowing ample space without any breathing room, isolating then rejecting all horror clichés, and abusing the actors until their hair began to fall out (note: this actually happened to Shelley Duvall). It’s one long build up of symbolic paradoxes and fleeting inconsistencies, details easily missed by the untrained eye, almost another movie hidden within the movie, so easy to get lost in once you find the key. And yet you never truly find out what it’s about. Is this some paranormal tale? Or one of insanity? We must never know, hence why it still divides opinion to this very day, some calling it “too long” and others calling it “overrated”, which are the type of comments that make me a dull boy. Rather, I consider this film to be the scariest horror I have ever seen (and I’ve seen them all), but so stylish in its attack that you don’t realise how freaked out you were until the film is over and it’s time for bed.
